Long Range Fishing Alaska

  Our long range trips leave Homer harbor early the first morning, many of our guests stay on the boat the evening before to facilitate an early departure (and to save on a motel room).  In the morning the crew will familiarize you with the features of the boat and serve a breakfast of juice, fruit, coffee, muffins and toast.  The boat in this case is the 50' Bay Explorer which is a fast, twin diesel, Delta Marine vessel licensed for 34 passengers.  We limit these trips to less than ten guests however, and in most cases six or fewer.  The vessel has all of the comforts of home while also providing a stable, full walk around deck for your fishing pleasure.  The boat is designed and equipped for serious fishing, arguably more halibut have been caught on this vessel than any other in the history of halibut sport fishing.

  We'll take you to areas beyond the range of the day trip fleet, to places that are rarely fished.  Since we have a limited number of people on the boat we can concentrate on larger fish usually in shallow water for the ultimate fight.  The spacious deck and experienced crew make this fishing at its best.  You may keep the four halibut of your choice, we encourage catch and release of large breeding fish.  Also available are several species of rock fish and ling cod.  We provide top quality tackle for catching halibut however you may want to bring along your favorite light tackle rod for some insane action.  Starting around the first of August we start catching silver salmon (Coho) on our long range trips.   This time of year we take along a shore launch so we can follow the salmon on the incoming tides.  There is nothing like fishing these remote areas for salmon and halibut.  The crew serves you first class meals, baits your hook, cleans your fish, even plays jokes on your buddy.  In the evening we anchor in calm protected coves where you can get a good nights sleep or you can fish all night.  We return to Homer around five p.m. on the last day of your trip.

  We recommend 2-4 days for halibut fishing and a minimum of three days if you want to add salmon fishing.  These trips are not the least expensive, they are simply the best.  They include your fishing, lodging, meals, and on board entertainment.  Why go to a lodge fishing when you can take the lodge fishing with you?
