Homer is the premier destination for sea kayaking in Kachemak Bay. Surrounded by picturesque mountain peaks, remote fjords and abundant wildlife this is as good as it gets. Homer Ocean Charters offers guided day trips for beginning and experienced sea kayakers. Paddling among the sea otter, porpoises and even whales at times, tidepooling and learning about the local area adds to your exceptional experience while paddling with us. Our guides are experienced, knowledgeable and helpful. Many of our paddlers have stated that kayaking with Homer Ocean Charters has been the highlight of their Alaskan vacation. We use single and double Necky kayaks that are very stable for beginners and also provide the experienced paddler with a fun boat.
Sea Kayaking Adventures: All of the options offered below can be modified to meet our client’s needs.
Guided Full Day Paddle: Cruise across Kachemak Bay. Join your guide at Otter Cove where you will receive instruction in paddling and safety while on the water. You will be fitted to your kayak, life jacket and spray skirt to ensure that you will be comfortable once you depart the beach. Paddle among the sea otters in the pristine waters of Otter Cove, Sadie Cove, Tutka Bay and Yukon Island. Keep your eyes open for sea birds, porpoises and other sea life. Your guide will customize the trip to meet your needs and skills. Stop along the way to observe the colorful invertebrates in the clear water tidepools. Bring along your lunch and drinks, camera, binoculars, warm clothes and light rain gear. You will stop along the way to walk on the beach, tidepool and eat lunch. Guide, kayak, spray skirt, paddle and round trip water taxi provided. Departs 10 a.m. daily for Otter Cove. Check in time is 9:15 a.m. Returns to Homer 5 p.m. Two-person minimum. $135 pp plus tax and gratuity.
Guided Half-Day Paddle: Departs 12 noon daily for Otter Cove. Returns at 5 p.m. See above for details. Three-person minimum. $110 pp plus tax and gratuity.
Join us for the ultimate outdoor paddling adventure. These trips can be customized to meet your needs. You can combine a guided trip, cabin rental, paddling and camping and hiking on your own. On your first day you can go on a guided trip with one of our experienced guides to learn the area. You can stay in cabins or bring along your tent and camping gear, rent kayaks and go off on your own. If you are master paddlers you may wish to rent kayaks and paddle without a guide. There are 3-5 days of great paddling available to you. You will also have access to hiking trails to Sadie Knob and Grace Ridge as well as beautiful beaches to explore. Paddle in the waters of Eldred Passage, Sadie Cove, Tutka Bay and the nearby islands. These waters are teeming with sea otters, sea birds and other marine wildlife. Enjoy tide pools, walks on the beach and a hike into Kachemak Bay State Park on the Grace Ridge Trail. Bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, towels, bug repellant, personal items, light rain gear, comfortable shoes for paddling, shoes for hiking, extra socks, a change of clothes, camera, binoculars and a tent if you plan to camp. Bring what you want to eat and drink. We provide round trip water taxi service, kayak, life jacket, spray skirt.

Kayak rentals: You may rent kayaks on a daily basis from the Otter Cove base camp. We will water taxi you from Homer to Otter Cove where you can pick up kayaks, spray skirts and paddles for your single or multi-day paddle. Round trip water taxi $65 pp. Single kayaks: $40 Double kayaks $70 All prices plus tax
Single paddlers or those who do not make the minimum number may be accommodated if we already have a group going. Discounts are available for large groups. Before departing on any kayak trips you will be asked to sign a liability waiver and leave a credit card number as a deposit for loss or damage to equipment.
