Shuyak Island Long Range Fishing Trips

For the ultimate Alaskan fishing adventure, Shuyak Island is as good as it gets! Yes, These are all salmonLocated at the northern tip of the Kodiak Island group, Shuyak Island is almost entirely comprised of State Park lands. The island itself is covered with huge Sitka Spruce and grassy meadows that are inhabited by Sitka Blacktail Deer, Canadian Geese, and an occasional Kodiak bear. Surrounding the island are waters rich with a variety of fish. Our years of experience fishing Shuyak enable us to put together fishing packages that we think are the best available anywhere, at any price.

This season we are using the 50' Bay Explorer, which will accommodate groups to six comfortably. While on board you will be served first class meals with lots of fresh seafood and barbecues on deck. Vessels are anchored in calm, protected coves at night so those concerned about sea sickness need not worry.

Incredible Silver Salmon FishingThe fishing is the best we have seen anywhere. The halibut fishing is excellent for big fish, and the great thing is, most of our fishing is done in shallow water, less than five miles from where we anchor at night. Shuyak Island is home to several runs of silver salmon and we time these trips to coincide with them. Salmon fishing is done by casting or trolling from skiffs, and by bank fishing. The salmon fishing has been nothing short of phenomenal. Other species that may be caught include ling cod and several types of rock fish. Catch and release fishing is practiced until the last two days of your trip to insure that you go home with nothing but the freshest fish possible. Possession limits presently are four halibut, six silver salmon, four ling cod, and more rock fish than you will want to keep. While not mandatory, we do encourage the release of large, breeding halibut, to help keep our stocks healthy for years to come. Fish will be filleted for you on board and prepared to go to the processor.

Clients should plan on flying in to Anchorage and driving to Homer (4-5 hours), or flying directly to Homer, we can pick you up at the Homer airport if needed. Gear should include a medium weight sleeping bag, pillow if desired, layered clothing, hat, functional raingear, and boots- hip boots or good knee boots. Also your shave kit with medicines, camera and any alcohol you desire.Fish On! You are welcome to bring your favorite medium action rod for salmon fishing or we can provide you with one, we have all halibut fishing gear. A supply of lures would be helpful, we use 1/2-7/8 oz. Pixie spoons, other bright spoons, large bright spinners such as the Vibrax, Bolo, Tee Spoon, Clam Shell spinner, etc. Fly fishing is available with egg imitators being the most productive, casting distance is very important. Pliers for hook removal are imperative. Last, but not least, a good attitude, come to have fun and you will.

The prices for these adventures are based on full boats only, with each boat handling six guests a variety of arrangements can be made for larger groups. Payment will be required for the full boat regardless of how many clients go on the trip. Prices include lodging on the boat, all meals on board, fishing gear and fish cleaning, and an excellent crew at your service. Flights can be arranged for clients who wish to fly to and from the boat or to arrange for a fish flight at an additional price.

  • 3 to 5 days trips available - prices based on current daily rate plus cost of flights.
These trips may be customised to meet your needs and can be done without airplane flights.
